What we want you to know about MHT
- Timing matters. Starting MHT within 10 years of menopause reduces the risk of heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and cognitive decline.
- Estradiol doesn’t cause breast cancer, and family history of breast cancer isn’t a contraindication.
- Testosterone matters for women too — for libido, muscle, and bone.
- Progesterone protects the uterus and improves sleep and mood.
- Delivery matters: pellets, patches, gels, and creams all have their place. Oral estrogen is generally avoided.
- For most women, MHT is far more likely to extend healthspan than shorten it.
