About Dr. Hillary
Dr. Boswell is a board-certified gynecologist and certified menopause practitioner, who has been caring for women in the Houston area since 2005. She has always been passionate about the need for girls and women to understand their own bodies and be empowered to make informed healthcare decisions. She is thrilled to be a part of this growing movement of providers and women who are reimagining midlife, aging and beyond.
I grew up overseas (Japan, Libya and Saudi Arabia) and appreciated early on how very lucky we are to be women in the US. I learned so much from my time immersed in vastly different cultures as a child and have tried to give my own two young Texans a little taste of the world through travel and relishing the cultural riches right here at home. If you’re bored or hungry in Houston, that’s your own damn fault.
I attended high school in Tucson, Arizona where I met a charming young man who continued to date me even after the debacle of the home-made hot pink taffeta prom dress, and eventually became my husband of 25 years and counting. I loved my time at Columbia University and earned the needed cash to enjoy N.Y.C through several part-time jobs, including bartending, travel writing and caring for a colony of laboratory leeches (if you’re not queasy I can tell you how to feed them).
While in medical school at The Ohio State, I tried to be interested in anything other than OBGYN, but after my first rotation on labor and delivery, it was no use. Helping women navigate some of the most intimate and consequential challenges, decisions and moments of their lives is an exceptional privilege. I especially loved working with adolescents since a positive early experience could have a lasting impact. I remember my first visit to the gynecologist and it was terrible: an unnecessary Pap smear and a surly provider with an inappropriate amount of exposed chest hair. I knew we could do better for our young women!
Over the past two decades, I’ve tried to do just that: give my patients a great experience. I’ve cared for women in a wide range of settings; from my fellowship in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at Texas Children’s Hospital, to years in private practice, serving the underserved at Federally Qualified Health Centers and stepping up into leadership roles, including Program Director for a brand-new Residency and Clinic Medical Director. Sadly, I don’t believe traditional medicine has learned the lessons the Pandemic was trying to teach us: that we need to take care of each other, ourselves and the world around us before disease forces us to act. I’m so excited for this next chapter in my career where we can take the time we need to address your complete midlife wellness.
When I’m not listening to optimal aging podcasts, I’m usually cooking, doing yoga or walking around the garden imagining achieving more bucket-list goals. Can’t wait to hear some of yours.
